Greens that are Cool

(Southwest Spicy Chicken Wrap & Butternut Squash and Coconut Soup)

On Tuesday I visited Cool Greens (6475 Avondale, Nichols Hills, 73116) for the first time. I had wanted to try CG for a while. When I first started my job I found out that my boss is a Vegetarian and thus started searching for places that would accommodate both him and the rest of our team. I was referred to Cool Greens, but never had the chance to explore (I like to go myself before subjecting the team just so that I know if it will go over well). Finally, after speaking to one of my co-workers who raved about CG the boss man and a couple of us decided to go for lunch this week.

Sadly, my boss got carted off to Tulsa on a political venture, but the girls and I decided that we would still go and we're glad we did!

Daniela was happy because she could FINALLY order a salad with no lettuce. Rheta had been there before and was glad to try a new soup. I was happy to finally be able to mark a place off my list of "need to visit"s.
I don't know for sure exactly what I was expecting, but the atmosphere was a little different than I had vaguely mad up in my mind's eye. It was neat and clean and crisp, just like their food. It was super crowded, not an empty seat when we first got there and even most of the patio seating had been taken up-- I wanted to take more pictures of the place but have no Photoshop abilities and I didn't want to draw too much attention to myself roaming around snapping pictures, trying to avoid faces with my camera phone.
They have great selections on their menu and dressings of all sorts. It's awesome because you can either pick something off the menu or create your own. Everything is made right there in front of you, the greens are all so fresh and bright vibrant green--no white lettuce here! The staff is friendly and will even put up with your crazy demands (read: Daniela's no-lettuce rule).
I have to say that for a place so healthy the portion was a little much for me-- I got the Wrap & 1/2 Soup-- I couldn't finish my wrap. It was PACKED full. The soup was savory, but did get cold a little too quickly-- The glass bowl didn't provide much insulation from the freezing temperatures inside the building.

CG also has a yogurt bar. Think, Pinkberry not Yogurt Land. That is, you play a flat rate and get 3 toppings for the small and your options are limited to a few fruits and some nuts or dark chocolate, unlike YL where you pay by the oz and can add as many toppings as you like with endless topping options. The yogurt was tasty but I felt that my yogurt-to-fruit-ratio could have been better-- lots of yogurt, not very much fruit.

I have to say that I was pleased for a first time. I will definitely be back to try some more of the entree options, but I think I'll save my yogurt adventures for places like PinkSwirls (OKC, MWC, and Edmond).

  1. Dani - I'd go try cool greens based upon your recommendation except that each time I get near that geographic area my car won't drive anywhere except the Brown Bag Deli. Seriously...I give it a "talkin too" but it won't listen. I could eat Brown Bag 5 days per week.
